Becoming a Christian

Well done! You’ve made a move towards God, whether that was just coming online to find out a bit more or you have prayed a prayer.
God is so excited because he just wants to connect with you.

This is what happens when we journey towards God. We meet at the cross, where an amazing swap takes place. We give Jesus our tired, flawed life – our anger, wrong thoughts etc. (The Bible calls it ‘sin’, read Romans chapter 3, verse 23) He takes them and he gives us eternal life, hope, freedom and peace. Wow! What an amazing swap.

If you want to make this swap at the cross why not pray this prayer…
Father, I am sorry for the rubbish in my life.
Thank you that Jesus took my sins upon himself on the cross.
I invite Jesus to become the boss of my life and I receive eternal life.
I want to strengthen my relationship with you and look forward to the next steps.
Amen.

Now on with the journey!
Well done! What an exciting journey you are on! There are many new steps to take, but here are my tips on your next three steps.

Step 1: Talk and listen to God
Pray, chat and talk to him. God is so excited about this new relationship, why not just chat with him everyday and see your friendship develop. Listen to his voice – God speaks through the Bible, so start to read it (try starting in the Gospels Matthew, Mark, Luke and John).

Step 2: Tell someone
Start by letting us know. Send us an email – info@aog.org.uk . It is always encouraging to hear people’s stories of how God is changing lives. Also find another Christian who you can tell and even pray with. The Christian life was not meant to be lived alone, so go on be brave… don’t keep it to yourself…

Step 3: Find a lively church
There are lots of different churches near you. Find one where you feel accepted. It’s great to be part of a team who are on this journey together. You can find one on the church locator on our website too.
