UCAN NATIONAL CONFERENCE 2017
UCAN is the UK Church Administrator Network was established in 2009 and has now grown to over 1,250 members. It is designed for anyone employed by a church in an administrative capacity, part-time or full time at any level. The network includes Directors of Operation, Church Business Managers, Church Office Administrators, Parish Secretaries, Ministers’ PAs, Administrative Assistants, etc. Membership is drawn from Anglicans, Baptists, Methodists, Pentecostals, Presbyterians, FIEC, Newfrontiers, Vineyard, independent churches and other denominations and groupings.
The theme of the 2017 National Conference is one of health worked out in three specific areas of our life.
"First there is our own physical and mental well-being when working in the stressful environment of a busy church.
Secondly, our relationships with other staff and leaders but in particular with our Senior Minister.
Thirdly there is our spiritual health as disciples of Jesus Christ. Can we open our hearts before God to seek his ways for living a healthy life in spite of the pressure most of us work under?
Trevor Stammers, as a medical expert, will help us understand our own need for good physical and mental health. There are many fault lines beneath the surface of even the most apparently ‘together’ people.
Jez Barnes and Jules Morgan, who work together as Senior Minister and Operations Director, will look at the importance of taking time to understand our differences and work out how to play to each other’s strengths.
John and Pauline Tindall will be our Chaplains throughout the conference and John will lead us in a Bible teaching session from the Pastoral Epistles.
Our overall aim is that you will be stimulated to think clearly and strategically on professional issues related to your work informed by quality speakers, resource information and peer debate challenged to relate your faith to your work through Bible input and discussion encouraged as a senior administrator by networking with others in similar roles and thereby you will be better equipped as a church worker and as a disciple of Jesus Christ.
Your hosts at King’s Park Brian Howells (Operations Manager at Holy Trinity, Claygate) // Julian Mander (Operations Manager at Riverside Church, Birmingham) // Irene Nash (Administration Manager at South Street Baptist, Greenwich, London) // Mark Parsons (Operations Manager at Christ Church Clifton, Bristol) // Becky Thomas (Operations Manager at Beeston Free Church, Nottingham) // John Truscott (UCAN National Co-ordinator)"
