Last month Assemblies of God in the UK, part of the World Assemblies of God Fellowship, the largest Pentecostal denomination in the world with over 69m adherents, announced the appointment of Pastor Glyn Barrett as the new National Leader of the Assemblies of God (AoG) Great Britain.
“Following a thorough and rigorous selection process, Glyn was overwhelmingly affirmed as our preferred candidate. He was recommended by our board because we believe he
will advance and expand the already great work of AoG in Great Britain.”
Mark Wiltshire, Chairman of AoG GB
Glyn and his wife Sophia are the Lead Pastors of !Audacious Church, a dynamic AoG Church in central Manchester which they pioneered in 2007. Since that time, it has grown from 50 people in a back-street warehouse into a multi-site, multi-generational church of 4 locations - 3 locations in and around Manchester plus another in Chester. Their central location has an active congregation of 4,000 people.
Glyn has a long History with AoG. His father, Bryn Barrett, was a pastor at AoG churches in Newtown (Mid-Wales), Gateshead and Manchester, before moving to Australia to pastor an AoG church in Queensland. Glyn himself studied at the AoG Bible College in Sydney; where he met his wife, Sophia. In 1996 they moved back to the UK to be Youth and Associate Pastors in an AoG Church and from 2005- 2010 Glyn served AoG in the role of National Youth Alive Director.
“I am passionate about Assemblies of God and the Church as a whole in the UK. My heart is to champion local leaders to become all that they can be. As far back as 1994 I felt God speak to me to say that at some point I would have the opportunity to lead AoG in the United Kingdom. I am so grateful to Him for this opportunity and am looking forward to getting started in this vital role”.
Glyn Barrett, National Leader AoG GB
A powerful and sought-after communicator, Glyn's preaching and inspirational teaching continue to challenge and grow people of all generations throughout the world. He has been a
regular speaker at many of the AoG conferences around the globe and continuously helps leaders break growth barriers in churches of all sizes. He also has strong connections with some of the most influential church movements and ministries in the world, with many of them included in his friendship circle.
Notes to editors - About AOG
Assemblies of God is a Pentecostal denomination that has been serving the people of Great Britain since 1924. We aim to serve the people of Great Britain through our network of over 500 local churches. These churches may vary in style and size, but all are committed to connecting people to Jesus through a variety of ministries. Many have comprehensive children's, youth and young adults' ministries as well as teaching, training and community ministries. As a movement, we want to "Give every man, woman and child the opportunity of understanding the gospel and to provide a church where they can grow in ministry for the glory of God."
