AoG NORTH SUPPORTING HOPE FOR JUSTICE
Hope For Justice work here in the UK (as well as in the USA, Norway and Cambodia). We exist to bring an end to modern slavery by rescuing victims, restoring lives and reforming society. I am the Regional Development Manager here in the North and my role is to work alongside churches in the region. My region covers up to the Scottish borders and down to Lancashire / Yorkshire.
We offer a few things that are of value:
Hope Sunday - we offer a speaker to come to a church on a Sunday and speak about modern slavery and the work we do, we often find people simply aren't aware about modern slavery or think it happens only abroad. The slot would usually last about 30 minutes and includes a video and then we describe our work. There is no reason this couldn't be done at a midweek church event. If after a speaker has been to a church, and there is appetite, churches can become official partners with Hope For Justice.
Training - we offer training in spotting the signs of slavery and human trafficking, ideal for groups of volunteers such as those working in food-banks & soup kitchens or those working with refugees and the homeless. Awareness is key and can lead to identification and rescue of victims. (The other training type activity that Hope For Justice deliver (not as directly related to churches but good for business networks) is direct with corporate businesses and that is focused on slavery in the supply chains and responsibilities businesses have under section 54 of the Modern Day Slavery Act.
Abolition Groups - small groups of like minded people (friends / colleagues) who get together and help us raise awareness about the issue, raise funds for our work and act on things such as campaigns or gathering information or things to help our hubs.
Thanks and please get in touch if you are interested in any of the above.
