Running to the End

2 Timothy 4:7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.

In recent years it as been a real privilege and blessing to have retired pastor Colin Whittaker and his wife Hazel as part of Arena Church. Following a short period of failing health he recently went to be with his Lord, at the grand age of 90. Colin served the Lord and our fellowship of AOG with great distinction and right to the end he 'kept the faith'.

There are so many words to define the Christian journey, and for me, the truth and principle of faith is the stand out; 'Being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see'. Vines Dictionary defines it as 'A Firm Persuasion'.

The Bible speaks of the invisible quality of faith:

2 Corinthians 5:7: It's imperative for our lives -
Hebrews 11:6: and how invaluable it is-
1 Peter 1:7: more precious than gold, and we go from 'faith to faith;' developing and deepening along the way.

Distinguishes: A 'stand out' people in an often cynical, skeptical world.

Extinguishes: Doubt, Disappointment and Disbelief all still seek to lap at the heart of the believer,it doesn't make us bad Christians, but faith enables us to be overcoming ones!

Relinquishes: What If? What About? How Will? Often we are stepping into a question mark in life as to our next faith step. As an old believer used to say 'Let go and let God'

We inevitably read the Bible 'backwards'; of course God came through! Try reading it forwards, place yourself in some of those life-challenging, destiny-defining situations and be inspired afresh to let faith mark you, your ministry and church.

Like Pastor Colin, may we all 'Keep the Faith'
