AOG church members in Deal attend local HEARTSTART course
AOG pastor and South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) chaplain Paul Fermor teamed up with Heartstart to promote CPR and other simple life-saving skills in the community of Deal. Paul invited members of his church (pictured above) to attend two sessions of the British Heart Foundation's (BHF) Heartstart course during November.
Paul, who often sees cardiac arrests when out with ambulance crews, knows just what a difference it can make if a bystander has started CPR immediately, so he was very keen to help promote these courses in Deal and the surrounding towns. Everyone who attended came with great enthusiasm and all achieved very high standards of CPR, rescue breaths and other life saving techniques.
BHF’s Heartstart trainer, Beverley-Jayne Last, said, “It was wonderful to have the support of SECAmb staff and the public at this event last week, and as an instructor the feedback from those that attended was very rewarding, with many positive comments about the course and this great initiative for the community. We are really looking forward to 2016, as we continue to grow our community of skilled bystanders in Deal to complement our Public Access Defibrillator sites."
This is a great example of a local church serving their community by equipping themselves to help people in need. If you think that your church could partake in a Heartstart course too, plese take a look at the BHF's Heartstart webpage for further information.
